Deciding On The Appropriate Garage Floor Tiles For You And Your Needs
Okay, you've decided which type of garage flooring you're going with, and you now need to decide on the exact product. Since garage floor tiles are generally capable of the same things as pretty much every other garage floor protector, you should focus most on those qualities that are most vital to you and your situation before you decide on your garage floor. Is your biggest concern the final cost? Are you planning to do a self install? Do you ever drop tools on your garage floor covering? Is your garage on the grand tour of your home? You should be considering all of these things when choosing your garage floor tile.
Cost
One of the best things about garage floor tile is that you can buy it in large or small quantities. To cover the same amount of floor, though, you'll always pay more for tile than any other covering, especially garage floor paint. If money is a big issue for you, try to pick tiles that will be easy to add on to when you can afford it. Sticking to well known names that are sold in many places, and shopping preemptively for smaller sets before you need them will ensure that you'll be able to finish out your project when money allows.
Installation
For the most part, it's very easy to install tiles. In fact, nowadays, you'd probably have to try to find tiles that weren't installed simply by clicking together, or adhering to the concrete. The largest issue in choosing the install method is the condition of the concrete garage floor. Damaged or badly stained? If this is the case, you may want to avoid the sticky backed type and go with snap together tiles instead. Is your floor in perfect condition? Then peel and stick tiles might be the better option since they're often cheaper, and generally wear slower.
Durability
At the end of the day, there's only two major varieties of garage floor tiles: they're either made of rubber, or they're not. If you tend to work in your garage, then rubber tiles are the way to go. You'll pay more up front, but the additional resistance to damage will make it worthwhile. You might even save money on tools that would have otherwise been damaged by dropping on a harder surface. This is why painted garage floors so often have a layer of rubber garage floor mats as well. If it seems like a waste of money, wait until you drop a tool and put a big crack or dent in your garage flooring.
Looks
Many people who are looking at garage floors really don't care how it looks. To most guys that work on cars, or much of anything else in their garage, as long as it's clean, it looks just fine. Some prefer to see that finish line checkerboard pattern, though, which is why many garage floor coverings sport that look. There are also various multi-colored options, as well as solid colors. If you look hard enough, you can probably find garage floor tiles in almost as many visual varieties as paint, although it will definitely take some looking. Although, if your only concern is looks, then I would suggest going with a garage floor stain instead of tiles. It's certainly a lot cheaper, and just might last longer, too.
